artist: MERZBOW VS. TAMARIN
title: MERZBOW VS. TAMARIN
year: 2005
notes: The eighth release by Artificial Music Machine is a split release featuring legendary noise musician, Merzbow, and founder of Mad Monkey Records, Daniel De Los Santos. For this album, I wanted something bold yet textural to compliment the music. While out one day taking pictures, I came across a long section of a two-toned wall embellished on one side by a reddish drainpipe and on the other, the access point of a fire hose standpipe. This became the basis for the majority of the album design; to which logo, title, tracklisting, copyright info and a UPC code were added as a large scale stencil. The text area of the cover design reappears as a close up on the back cover to fulfill the standard of having such information on the back of an album sleeve.
