artist: ADORATION DESTROYED
title: RITUAL DAMAGE
year: 2016
notes: Seven years after working with Austin industrial act, Lust Murder bOX, I got the chance to start working with Erik Gustafson on his new project, Adoration Destroyed. Whereas the art for the previous work was based on propaganda, this new venture was to be influenced by early twentieth century occultism, art deco, and damask wallpaper. The wordmark and icon were developed to work individually or in combination; first finding their place against a damask background for the cover of the band’s first single. Once the time came to begin putting this release together, the scenes were developed and a custom planchette was made to be featured. The base images were then photographed utilizing an iPhone 5s with a controlled exposure and minimal, rudimentary lighting. The images were then digitally processed (sometimes incorporating multiple shots) and texturized to create a cohesive, mysterious, vintage look. The version seen here, however, is an abridged version of a book themed Digipak design which included a 12 page booklet featuring lyrics and additional photos. The package was redeveloped as a jewel case upon the band signing with Cleopatra Records; leaving the “Black Book” version out of circulation until some future day.
